Learn to Manage Societies

Progress in the social sciences is especially slow, for reasons we don’t yet fully understand; but we desperately need better social scientific knowledge to build the sophisticated institutions today’s world demands.

Thomas Homer-Dixon, The Ingenuity Gap, P 5

SOCIETALogically,  if the progress in the social sciences has been slow, it is because societies have never been defined in a clear, clean and precise manner. Social scientists were thus left in the dark.

Without this knowledge and despite the hundreds of billions of dollars that were probably spent worldwide in the last one hundred years in these fields, social scientists are still blindfolded and are still not able to produce the sophisticated institutions that we need today.

Training Sessions

All my colleagues should possess this knowledge. Jean-François LeBlanc City Councillor Gatineau

One of the goals of the SOCIETALogy Institute is to promote the societalogical knowledge through coaching and training so that politicians, public administrators, civic leaders and other citizens learn how to manage their societies.

If you are interested in learning to manage your local, state or provincial, or national society, this 12

-hour condensed training program is for you. The training you will receive will help you anchor the knowledge and  experience you already possess to the management of your society.

A great systemic understanding of how societies affect cities.

This training is thus not a good fit if you don’t already possess an undergraduate degree in a related field.

Training at a Glance

Candidate for Mayor of Gatineau. The allegiance of politicians and the administration must be towards citizens in general and not towards the city.

The following are the core elements of the program:

1 – Prolog – Helps us situate the scope of the training and of societalogy.

2 – Understanding Concepts – Societalogy clarifies many concepts useful to better manage societies.

3 – Understanding our social interactions and our social conflicts – To be able to manage societies we need to understand how we interact and how conflicts arise.

4 – Understanding our social evolution – To be able to better manage societies we need to better understand how societies originate.

5 – Understanding societies – We can’t manage something if we do not know what it is.

6 – Understanding our societal tools – Managing includes the use of tools. What societal tools do we use to prevent, solve our manage social conflicts?

7 – Understanding Citizens – Do you know what citizens are? What is their role? What competence do they need to have? Can we be ethical citizens?

8 – Understanding Human Beings –  Human beings are social beings and it is their social interactions that causes conflicts. What do we know about human beings that can help us better manage societies?

9 – Planning and implementing –  Facilitating change is at the core of any management exercise. How can we facilitate change when the scope of change covers society as a whole?

Formative Process

The program is constructed to help participants ask questions after each concept so that they better understand the concepts and are able to use them later on . Furthermore, the program is built to foster interactions both between the participants and the trainer as well as between the participants so that the concepts can be directly applied on the field.
